Facing Reality

June 2020

Growing up as a child in Suriname we had siesta in the early afternoon.

It was just too hot to do anything other than lay down and not move!

I rarely stuck to this rule because I was (and still am) a restless child, so I spent the afternoon hours drawing.

During the first lockdown, these memories came flooding back, keeping busy while it felt like the rest of the world was sleeping.

Black and white drawing is my default setting originating from these quiet hot afternoons and years of fashion drawing and pattern drafting.
